Leon’s journey began as an avid organic gardener, and he carried that knowledge into our vineyard practices when we moved to Amador County. In 2007, we made a pledge to embrace natural farming techniques and prioritize environmental consciousness. This commitment reflects our dedication to sustainable winemaking, ensuring that we honor the land while producing exceptional wines.
Our Sustainable Vineyard Practices
Natural Farming and Biodiversity
We employ complementary plantings, beneficial insects, and composting to maintain healthy soils, while bird boxes attract native birds that help control pests.
Diverse Crops and Minimal Chemicals
Our 200 acres include wine grapes, olives, prunes, and walnuts, with estate olive oil crafted from our olives. We use conventional methods with minimal sulfites to preserve wine freshness and flavor.
Sustainable Practices
We utilize solar power, recycle materials, and enrich grape compost with shredded office paper, along with offering free solar-powered EV charging at Shenandoah Vineyards.
Our commitment to sustainable practices is the foundation of our winemaking philosophy. We believe that by nurturing the land and using environmentally conscious methods, we can produce wines that reflect the true essence of our vineyards while preserving the earth for future generations.
